So many great memories from the early days as a scrappy startup working out of Danny’s house. It’s hard to pick just one: • The daily dog party at the office. My dog Roo would come home so exhausted from playing all day that by 7 PM he’d be asleep on his back on our couch, feet in the air. • Danny’s face tuning in every day on a 50-inch TV sitting at the head of the dining room table. • Leaning into the “Do Things That Don’t Scale” mentality. After we launched Helper Hive, we purchased an iPod touch preconfigured with a Google phone number for a helper who didn’t have a smartphone. The helper later ghosted us and never returned it. • Driving to New York Life’s offices to debug issues they were having with accessing our site.

I think we’ve all seen how hard it is to watch loved ones lose autonomy as they age. Sometimes my days can get deep in the weeds on technical conversations, but then I get a chance to connect with someone on our operations team with a firsthand story about a senior or a provider that reminds me about the lives we are touching. We’re lucky to be living in a world with things like grocery delivery and rideshare services. I am happy to see THB working to figure out how to make this ever-growing list of resources more accessible and easier to navigate for our seniors.

I don’t have any formal experience caregiving, but I live close to my husband’s 101-year-old grandmother, who is still living in her house! She is amazing, and watching her and my three-year-old son interact brings a lot of joy and perspective to my life.

What feels like a lifetime ago, I was a high school math teacher. I enjoy gardening, knitting, and in general being outdoors. I also recently moved to Florida and am learning to surf!
